Sangiuliano Palace
University Square in front of the University Building. It currently houses the administrative offices of the University of Catania. The building designed by the architect Giovan Battista Vaccarini was built in 1738 and has been remodeled several times. Significant is the central door and the tribune of honor above. The door, built with various polychrome marbles, is flanked by two marble columns, recovered from some Roman period buildings, perhaps the Theater. At the peak of the arch there is a double coat of arms, to the left of the Paternò Castello, patrons of the building, to the right that of the Asmundo family, from which the marquisate of San Giuliano in 1702 was derived. The two-flight staircase is also attributed to Vaccarini with portico with columns placed at the end of the internal courtyard in line with the door.
