The porspetto has a mighty entrance bordered by two columns, and by two elegant balconies on both sides. The Royal Hospice of Charity of Agrigento was founded at the behest of the Bishop Mons. Lo Iacono, with the intention of making it a shelter for the poor. After the unification of Italy it changed its intended use by hosting the offices of the Prefecture and the Provincial Administration of Agrigento
