Description

Ajutamicristo Palace - Palermo

Via Giuseppe Garibaldi n. 31. It was commissioned by the baron of Misilmeri and Calatafimi, the banker of Pisan origins Guglielmo Ajutamicristo. The work was built in 1490 and 1495 by Matteo Carnilivari, a well-known architect of the time, but the majestic project was only partially carried out focusing above all on the luxurious interior that convinced illustrious guests including the emperor Charles V in 1535 and Don Giovanni of Austria in 1576 to stay there. After the seventeenth-century alterations, the palace now appears as a splendid Catalan-Gothic style building with Baroque balconies and portal and a double-order internal loggia with a large garden where the statue of the Sea Horse was housed, now rearranged in Piazza S. Spirito
