Rural settlement

A small rural settlement, mainly frequented in the Imperial Roman age, located on a relief locally known as Cozzo delle Graste. The area scattered with clay fragments extended (approx. 4000 sq m) and occupies a sort of natural terrace that rises to the N towards the slopes of Cozzo Terravecchia. Of particular interest is the discovery in the locality of some bronze coins54, as well as six bronze objects that are difficult to date, including two buckles and a ring. Among the pottery there is a fragment of an Ionic cup (second half of the VI-beginning of the V century BC) a fragment of a crater, datable no later than the end of the V century. BC these fragments constitute the only trace of frequentation of the site in the Greek age. The characteristics of the site and the analysis of the material suggest a long attendance, mainly linked to the favorable conditions of the environment. Pottery was first used between the end of the sixth and fifth centuries BC, although not with certainty, given the proximity of Terravecchia di Cuti. The permanent occupation of the site dates back to the late imperial age, in particular between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries. The presence of a denarius of Giovanni d'Aragona seems to be a sporadic fact, to be connected to a late medieval era, when Cozzo delle Graste must have been abandoned for some time, but a few hundred meters to the south, in Recactive, the rural settlement that has remained alive until today.
