Technical data sheet of the traditional agri-food product (PAT)

Around 1890, as a consequence of the persistence of the crisis in mulberry growing, on the slopes of the medium and high hills another protagonist of the Nebroid agricultural landscape was spreading, namely the hazelnut; this crop, already present in the past in the Tortoriciano area, thanks to its ease of adaptation, its very dense root system and therefore able to prevent soil erosion, and obviously its productivity, managed to worthily replace the mulberry crop. The hazelnut groves, covering about 12 thousand hectares and with a vast genetic heritage, provide valuable products especially from a qualitative point of view. Among the main cultivars we remember the Curcia, the Cart, the Ghirara, the different Minnulare. Widely used in local confectionery, for the preparation of excellent ice creams, parfaits and characteristic desserts such as: pasta reale, crunchy, nougat and twigs.
