Necropolis of Uditore
Description

Necropolis of Uditore

“The building expansion has for some time reached the hamlet of Uditore destroying all traces of the past. In 1918 some “oven” tombs had come to light and the National Museum of Palermo acquired some vascular shapes. In 1936 the director of the museum, Paolino Mingazzini, intervened with an excavation funded by a passionate scholar, J. Goekoop de Jongh. The old tomb of 1918 still returned a dozen skeletons and some vases; two other tombs came to light with scant furnishings. The writer, having identified the site in 1969, together with Flaminia Qujani of the Sapienza University of Rome, dug a new tomb which, although lacking a manhole, still retained a rich outfit.
In 1972 the Superintendency of Palermo, in collaboration with the Sapienza University, proceeded to a further excavation, identifying three new "oven" tombs and a system of channels as in Ciachea.
(Cute). In all cases it is tableware of the Conca d'Oro style. "(Text source: Giovanni Mannino: Guide to the Prehistory of Palermo - List of prehistoric sites in the province of Palermo - Palermo: Sicilian Institute for Political and Economic Studies, 2008.
