Description

Contrada Sottafari necropolis

The area is spread over a vast plateau whose western slope is of a rocky nature. The tombs are cut at multiple heights on the steep limestone wall. Two of the burials almost entirely preserve the square entrance. On the edge of the plateau, in a plot cultivated with vineyards, a large area of ceramic fragments was found, including fragments of jars and bowls from the early Bronze Age, sometimes with remains of engraved and painted decoration. The presence of some fragments of brown glazed pottery also allows us to hypothesize that the site was frequented even in the Middle Ages.
