Manico di quarara stands for "handle of jug", a "talking" toponym that indicates an area with archaeological evidence. Unnamed in the IGM tablet, it is easily identified in the eastern slopes of Pizzo Grotta Bianca, territory of Carini, which border with those of Giardinello and Montelepre, at the provincial road Montelepre-Carini (SP40). In 1967, traveling along the provincial road, I realized that in the eastern ridge the mouths of some underground tombs violated in ancient times and buried back into the ground could be seen. I hoped they were prehistoric (I was wrong). In May
of the following year I obtained from the Superintendent, Prof. Vincenzo Tusa, two workers for a week, renewed a few times, for the results for what interested me: disappointing, for science: beyond any optimal forecast. The excavations allowed me to investigate 14 burials, real chambers
and discover some of them untouched which returned several hundred vases dating back to the VI-III century BC. housing
built on terraces brought to light by clandestine excavations and by Vittorio Giustolisi's research which led him to propose identification with Hikkara.
