The Papyrus Museum, created and managed by the International Papyrus Institute in 1989, deals with the study, conservation and dissemination of the testimonies of the "papyrus" culture, established in 1989 collects: ancient papyrus documents from the 800th century BC to the eighth century AD; papyri produced in Syracuse since the XNUMXth century; boats from Ethiopia and Lake Chad; papyrus artifacts (ropes, mats, etc.); a herbarium comprising umbrellas of Cyperus papyrus collected along the Nile, in Lake Chad, in Lake Hula (Israel) and in Sicily (Fiumefreddo and Syracuse); tools and materials for writing (mortars and pestles, ancient presses, palettes, brushes, paints, etc.) used by the Egyptian scribes. The Papyrus Museum is not just a museum exhibition but carries out an educational-scientific activity.
