Chiaramonte Museums: Museum of Sicilian Embroidery and Fashion Show

Photo: web

It is located in one of the alleys adjacent to the historic staircase of San Giovanni, within the evocative medieval layout of the ancient city. In the museum there are spaces where the environments in which the unmistakable and increasingly rare embroideries of the Sicilian fashion show are created are reconstructed, with furnishings, furniture, photographs and precious handcrafted tools. The exhibition is embellished with unobtainable evidence of the past, including a wooden frame; and still more than two hundred pieces can be seen among curtains, tablecloths, towels, lampshades, sacred vestments, as well as frames and tools from the Sicilian eighteenth century.

The Embroidery Museum is a place to keep what time would inexorably destroy; but it also constitutes the first nucleus of a multipurpose structure open to the market. And of this important patrimony the visitor will find, copiously exposed, well-known and widespread, and prestigious genres: the parade 400, of great value, also in its variant with mending stitch; the parade 700 and 500. In this exhibition, the historicity of the pieces on display is also captured and many works have a precise dating referable to periods and artefacts between the end of the eighteenth and twentieth centuries: Caterina de 'Medici style, Empire style ...
