Description

Monte Pellegrino - Addaura: Grotta dell'Antro nero or the Bovidae

Cadastral number Sicilian caves n. 89 and 88)

”It opens immediately on the right from the great Riparo dell'Addaura Caprara and remains under the Grotta dell'Eremita (Pa. N. 88). It has a very wide entrance, almost ten meters; closed or not depends on vandalism. Both in the first
environment that in the following emerges the red earth. The wall in front of the entrance is not made of rock, it is an exceptional paleo-soil of the upper Paleolithic which seems to obstruct the development and gives us an idea of the consistency of the ancient deposit. Two figures of bovids are graffitied on the right wall.
A few years after the discovery, some imbeciles have crossed the furrow several times. The restoration (!), Carried out a few years ago, being graffiti could not restore the "primitive aspect", but gave us a sort of copiaccia. On the subject of false memories, for future reference, that in the terminal environment of the cave there is, from 1955-56, an anthropomorphic figure "painted in black", drawn with the smoke of a carbide lamp.
