Description

Monte Gallo - Cave of Mal Passo (Malu Passu)

"Access: the entrance to the cavity is visible only from the sea; access is dangerous and not recommended for anyone who does not have good mountain knowledge. The cave opens in the short stretch of the northern side of the mountain where the cliff, which descends almost from Torre Amari (428 m), is separated from the cliff by a narrow strip of almost overhanging aquifer debris.
In times when hunting was very popular, the rare passage of hunters kept a slight furrow. From this track to the entrance of the cavity ran (1978) about ten meters, all on ground debris which were overcome by stepping, with the tip of the rock hammer, with some supports and various holds.

The cave: the development of the cavity is articulated along an almost rectilinear crack, alternating with small spaces. In the final part the rooms are richly concreted, there is also a small basin of water, the only one found in the whole cave rich in crystals. The practicability is interrupted by a massive concretion that does not allow a clear diagnosis on a possible continuation. The presence of water in a cave, even in the most internal and difficult to reach parts, has always attracted the interest of man, since prehistoric times, which has always left traces there. The environment
absolutely intact, no stalactite broken, suggests, while remaining incredulous, as if it had never been explored. On its possible development, over half a century ago, I wrote: "We believe that the practicability of this cave dug by the sea does not stop at this point (made impassable by an abundant stalactite process) but that it still extends for many and many dozen of meters within the mountain massif ".
