Description:
This area falls on the western side of Etna at altitudes between 900 and 1100 m and is characterized by ancient lava flows. The bioclimate is part of the lower subhumid mesomediterranean. Wood formations are well represented, such as deciduous oak woods dominated by Quercus virgiliana, often mixed with woods with Quercus ilex. The presence of Celtis aetnensis is significant, especially widespread in woodland formations. There are also scrubs of Genista aetnensis.
Of particular importance in this area is the presence of deciduous and evergreen woodland formations that often cover large surfaces. There are also several entities that in the regional area are rare or considered to be of significant phytogeographic interest, in turn mentioned in the list reported in section 3.3 (D). reproductive site from the Sicilian Rock Partridge. The invertebrate fauna is relatively diversified with numerous endemic species, sometimes known only for the Etna area.
