Monastery of S. Francesco di Paola (Badia Nuova)
Built together with the annexed Benedictine monastery Badia Nuova in 1531, it was demolished in 1699 and rebuilt in the first half of the century
XVIII with interventions (1724) by the Trapani architect Giovanni Biagio Amico. Discreet on the outside, it reveals great balance and limited spatiality on the inside: the single nave has a barrel-vaulted roof and side altars which are slightly embedded between simple fluted pilasters, and is animated by a sober stucco decoration. It houses a splendid painting by Pietro Novelli depicting Saint Benedict of Norcia distributing the rule.
Inside there are eight stucco statues made in 1724 by Giacomo Serpotta and are among the main masterpieces of the artist who approaches Bernini's works for expressive vigor. The statues that adorn the walls are: La Pace, La Mansuetudine, La Fortezza, La Purezza, L'Addolorata, La Maddalena, S. Pietro and S. Paolo. (Source Municipality of Alcamo)
