Benedictine Monastery of S. Nicolò la Rena 

Benedictine Monastery of San Nicolò La RenaDante square. The monastery occupies a large area, it existed before the earthquake of 1693, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style following the damage suffered by the earthquake. The main facade is characterized by a very rich series of masks, fruits, cherubs, and nymphs that adorn the windows and balconies. At the center of the main facade, a majestic portal. Inside there are two large cloisters on the sides of which run long corridors on which the doors of the cells and apartments open. Characteristic is the main pincer staircase that is due to Girolamo Palazzotto, covered with neoclassical stuccoes. At present the structure houses the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Catania.
