Description

Masseria in C.DA Camemi

Fortified farmhouse located in the Ragusa countryside and, more precisely, along the SP 25 between Ragusa and Marina di Ragusa at 230 m. above sea level from which it is 2 km as the crow flies. It stands on an ancient site with a typical closed court (baglio) of Arab derivation of 1800 square meters. enclosed by five buildings subject to a skilful conservative restoration that has safeguarded the original materials such as local white limestone and pitch stone.

The buildings, divided into five suites (all with independent entrances from the beam and equipped with living rooms and bathrooms) and two independent rooms dating back to 1600 and 1700, have a covered area of approximately 1.200 m² and are surrounded by 7,90 hectares of land facing the sea to the south with a naked eye view of the islands of Malta from the 5 different terraces on various levels.

In the main body there is the Chapel which, as certified by the Archiepiscopal Curia of Syracuse, was consecrated to worship on April 10, 1676 and in whose altar there is the "lapis sacer" with the relic of an unidentified saint; the complex, very close to the historical centers of the Baroque, is an expression of the typical buildings of the time due to its position, architecture and elegance.

The farm dates back to the early 1600s and was part of a fiefdom owned by Baron Grimaldi of Calamenzana, one of the branches of the Grimaldi family still present in the Hyblaean territory.

The period is certified not only by the architecture, but also by the presence of dated finds such as graffiti, documents and letters from the family archives. (Text source: http://www.baronessadicamemi.it/)
