Technical data sheet of the traditional agri-food product (PAT)
Features: The Ciaculli mandarin has orange-colored fruits, of medium size, mainly seedless, with a sweet and rightly acidulous flavor.
The interest in the variety is mainly linked to the ripening period (February-March), which coincides with a scarce presence of competing citrus fruits. The variety tends to be seedless, not large in size with a thin skin that peels off easily.
Area of production: It is widespread in the Tyrrhenian coast of Palermo and in the province of Catania.
Note: Mandarin is a citrus fruit originally from China. It was produced in Italy around 1800. The Tardivo di Ciaculli cultivar probably originated from a bud mutation of the Avana mandarin identified in the early 50s.
