Palace of Culture and Loggia of Palazzo Platamone
Via Landolina 11.
In the 1693th century, the Platamone family erected a showy palace in Catania, which contended with Palazzo Biscari for the reputation of the most luxurious and representative palace in the city. Shortly afterwards the palace was donated to the religious, and for this reason after the earthquake of XNUMX, which largely destroyed the monastery of San Placido, the most ancient testimonies of the Platamone palace were annexed in the reconstruction of the latter.
Today all that remains is a loggia, surmounted by a balcony, kept in the courtyard of the Monastery
The remains of the former Monastery of San Placido and the older ones of the Platamone palace were integrated for the construction of the current Palace of Culture.
