Chronological News
The origin of this particular boat is due to the ability and wisdom of the ancient Pantelleria shipwrights in modifying a type of rig (boat) called "Portuguese". Over time, the most sought after feature was that of lightness and speed which led to experimenting with the design of sails and construction materials. These characteristics allowed sailors and fishermen to quickly resell their cargo. From this subtle competition probably derives the tradition of regattas on the occasion of religious celebrations or sporting events.

Description
The Lancia Pantesca is a tapered hull of about 4-5 meters, in mulberry wood for the keel and light pine for the construction planking.
The boat was designed and modified over time by the shipwrights of Pantelleria to be docile in handling but at the same time robust to face the inclement weather of the sea and agile for fast navigation. It consists of a single mainsail (sail) supported by a fixed mast, a pair of oars for rowing and a removable external rudder. The Lances were used for small coastal transport and to unload goods from the large motor sailers that moored on the island, to load the precious Zibibbo grapes or for offshore fishing trips. Its characteristics were modified over time due to the needs of life and activities on the island.
