Description:
It is a mountainous area at altitudes between 950 and about 1300 m affected by siliceous substrates mainly represented by flysch, schist and gneiss. It
it falls on the southern slope of the Nebrodi and coincides with the basin of Lake Ancipa, an artificial reservoir. The bioclimate is part of the sub-humid mesomediterranean. The
forest formations are represented by Cerrete and mesophilic woods with Quercus congesta. Extensive surfaces are covered by mesophilic pastures and thorny shrubs.
There are also frequent areas covered by more or less recent reforestation. The central part of the area is occupied by the artificial basin in which they are observed
aspects of submerged vegetation, which develop in the shallower sections. Along the edges at the surfaces subject to emergence during the
summer period, annual hygrophilous aspects characterized by reptant therophytes with subnitrophilic needs
This area is important above all for the presence of the artificial basin of the Ancipa, which being located in a mountainous area has a certain value
naturalistic for the avifauna. In particular, it is a resting place for wintering aquatic birds and for transit during the migration period. Here they are
also various entities that in the regional area are rare or considered of significant phytogeographic interest, in turn mentioned in the list in the section
3.3(D)
