Site type: SAC - Special Conservation Area
Code: ITA010005 - Hectares: 1511
Description:
The Gorghi Tondi and Lago Preola constitute a lake complex originating from the presence of an impermeable clayey level, interspersed with the Quaternary calcarenites that emerge in the area (sciare di Mazara), fed by groundwater. The waters have a low level of salinity. Average temperature 18 ° C. Precipitation about 400 mm. Bioclimate: Thermotype: Lower Thermomediterranean; Umbrotype: superior dry.
The Gorghi Tondi and Lake Preola complex constitutes a very important humid environment, without any contact with the sea. The escarpments around the depression host an interesting forest formation with Quercus ilex and Quercus calliprinos. The skiing area is flat and hosts an interesting plant community featuring Chamaerops humilis and Rhamnus oleoides
It is included in the Reserve Preola Lake and Gorghi Tondi
