Description

Ognina

Traces of Neolithic and Bronze Age dwellings. There are holes on the island, probably traces of Neolithic pile dwellings. Traces of fortification from the Bronze Age have also been found and the remains of a small three-nave Byzantine-era basilica built just inland on the west coast.

The site was studied by Bernabò Brea around the 60s-70s. 

On the coast there are few traces of the protective moat of a coastal village of the Stentinello facies engulfed by marine erosion. Necropolis connected to the Bronze Age town at 400 m from the canal port.
On the islet of Ognina there are traces of life from the Neolithic age (Stentinelliana) to the entire Bronze Age with Maltese Tarxen type culture. Corridor tomb of the same culture.
