Description: 

The island of Linosa, extending over 5,4 square kilometers, is made up of Quaternary volcanic rocks linked to repeated eruptive activities. It is therefore characterized by several
cones made of pyroclastic material with a maximum altitude of 195 m (Monte Vulcano). Along the limited flat areas it is still practiced today
agriculture, with particular reference to vineyards and horticultural crops. As for Lampedusa, annual rainfall is extremely high in Linosa as well
variables, even if the average values ​​appear higher to testify a greater climatic oceanicity; the bioclimate is referred to the dry inframediterranean
The island as well as being extremely interesting from a biogeographical point of view is of great landscape value, the anthropic works have been
in fact performed according to traditional techniques often using the materials available on site.

Unique environment both from a naturalistic and landscape point of view. The Pelagie Archipelago includes areas of considerable naturalistic-environmental interest, with
peculiar aspects of xerophilous vegetation. In Linosa there are several rare or completely absent plant species in the Italian territory, while in appearance
vegetation of a certain importance are the shrubby and halophilous-rupicolous formations.The island of Linosa hosts the largest colony of Calonectris diomedea present
in the Mediterranean with over 10.000 couples. There are numerous species of insects that are exclusive to Linosa. As for the herpetofauna, interesting is the
endemic population of Podarcis filfolensis laurentiimuelleri, and the oviposition area of ​​the Caretta caretta in the western pozzolana beach
