Favignana Island
Site type: SAC - Special Conservation Area
Code: ITA010004 - Hectares: 1832
Description: The island is spread over a low-lying limestone plateau, culminating in Monte Santa Caterina. The current name of the island dates back to the Middle Ages and seems to derive from the name of a warm wind coming from the west, the Favonio. The village of Favignana rises around a natural inlet where the port is structured on whose banks there are the buildings of the ancient Florio traps.
It is included in the Egadi Islands marine nature reserve
