Son of John the Baptist Philip Basile.

Ernesto Basile was born in Palermo on January 31, 1857. He graduated in Architecture and won the competition for assistant professor of Technical Architecture at the School of Application for Engineers and Architects of Palermo. In 1883 he obtained the free teaching and obtained the chair. Participate in various national and international competitions. The project for the Basile villa in Santa Flavia, near Palermo, dates back to 1874. In 1887 he designed the Vicari kiosk in Piazza Verdi. In 1888 he took care of the arrangement of the “New avenue de Libertacao” in Rio de Janeiro and also designed many buildings for it. In 1891 he was commissioned to design the buildings of the National Exhibition of Palermo. In the same year his father died, and Ernesto was quickly commissioned to set up the interiors of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
Palazzo Bordonaro and Palazzo Francavilla date back to 1893. In 1895 he taught Architecture at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Palermo and, in 1896, he began his collaboration with the Florio family… At first he produced objects for their ceramic company. In this period there is also the beginning of the collaboration with the Ducrot company. In 1897 he became director of the Institute of Fine Arts of Palermo. In 1898 he made a trip to Vienna where he was able to observe the works of the Viennese Secession. The following year, animated by the same spirit of discovery, he went to Belgium, France and Holland. In 1899 he designed the splendid Florio villa whose interiors were destroyed by a fire in the 60s. 1900 sees him busy for the Villa Igiea in Palermo. In 1902 he was commissioned for the extension project of the Montecitorio palace in Rome: he built the new chamber for the Deputies. In the early 900s, the important exhibitions of furniture he created took place at the exhibitions in Turin and Venice. In 1903 he created the Fassini cottage (later destroyed), and the Basile cottage. In 1905 the Florio Stand. In 1906 it was the turn of the Deliella building which was illegally demolished in the 50s. In 1907 he designed the power plant in Caltagirone and the extension of the Grand Hotel et des Palmes in Palermo. In 1908 it was the turn of the Cassa di Risparmio in Piazza Borsa in Palermo. In 1912 the Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali of Venice in via Roma. In 1913 the Kursaal Biondo. In 1916 the Ribaudo kiosk in Piazza Castelnuovo. From 1918 he was supported in his work as an architect by his sons Roberto and Giovanni Battista Filippo. He will die in Palermo in August 1932.
