What the series is about?

Manager of a pizzeria in New York, Mario, an emigrant from Palermo who has already done his tests according to the plans of the mafia, is instructed to return to Sicily, where he will have to eliminate a senior magistrate. At home, Mario finds his family and, above all, his brother Michele, for whom he nourishes, in return, a deep affection. Michele is just the opposite of Mario, he is an excellent and honest boy, who immediately, confusedly, notices his elder brother's involvement when he asks him to "work" for him. Michele is fired on the spot from his modest place in the markets, only for allowing himself some slight hint made to the police, having witnessed one of the usual Mafia-type executions as a witness. At the same time, a tender love arises between him and Cecilia, a fifteen-year-old forced by her mother to prostitute herself to support her family. In order to free her from such slavery, Michele turns to Mario, asking him to borrow the twenty million that Cecilia's family is demanding. The killer, who had already worked to get Michele out of prison (denounced for the attempted kidnapping of the girl), accepts, but forces his brother to work for him and, with the latter's acceptance, begins to train him with the weapons. Michele, however, fails at the first attempt: he should kill a police officer, one of the magistrate's escort who is in the sights of the mafia, but his courage fails him and only the quick intervention of Mario, who assists not far away, will provide for what has been decided. While Mario develops the complex plan of attack with the collaboration of the local mafia, his brother, even without mentioning the name of the killer, alerts the police. But the mafia has spies and accomplices even inside the judicial offices: the crime occurs with an authentic massacre, but the mafia's telephone wiretapping system has, in any case, recorded Michele's voice. Meanwhile, he refuses the twenty million that his brother would like to deliver and takes Cecilia with him, thus challenging "the honored society" across the board. He will be saved by Mario who, after offering him not only the money but also the dangerous tape, kills his accomplice, as well as the intermediary who, from New York to Palermo, the mafia has always placed on his ribs and leaves for the United States. But the Mafia has long, patient tentacles: right in his pizzeria and while he calls Michele on the phone, Mario is shot dead by two hit men.
