Ghar Dalam ("The cave of darkness") is a natural cave dug over millions of years by water that percolates and dissolves the limestone is perhaps the testimony of the oldest human settlement on the Maltese islands (around 7400 years ago). Inside there are remains of animals from the very first ice age, visible in the adjacent museum. The cave was also used as a bomb shelter during World War II.
