Cave of the Hundred Stairs and Marine Nativity
Ancient passage created along the hundred steps that led from the top of the hill of San Matteo down to the valley, that is to a source of fresh water (still present today) of primary necessity in case of enemy siege or when the Sciclitans had to hide if the lookout announced the arrival - quite frequently - of the Saracen ships. We are in the "belly" of the hill, the access is from the ancient district of Santa Maria La Nova and the path in the bowels of the earth, dug by man, had to lead to the bed of a millenary underground karst river. The place is the seat of the Marine Nativity of Scicli
