Description

Funny Cave

More commonly known as "Villafrati Caves". The cavity is located halfway up the Pizzo Chiarastella (608 m) on which there is an indigenous and a Norman center, at the foot of which the warm waters flow which have already been frequented by Muslims for several years. The cave is spread over two superimposed levels with their own entrances, intercommunicating through a small hole that is barely accessible in the final part. Andrian distinguishes them in Buffa 1a and Buffa 2a. These are two rock necropolises excavated for the first time by Prince Mirto in 1863 and subsequently by von Andrian in 1878 who emptied the rooms, certainly not with great care, so much so that the cave still contains small traces of the ancient filling. As far as we know from Bovio Marconi, the finds kept by Prince Mirto were donated to the National Museum of Palermo. Some skulls ended up in the Geological Museum of Palermo. Federic Andrian brought with him the artifacts he found. It does not appear that he has De Gregorio in his collection. These are finds that are placed in the second half of the Eneolithic.
