Description

Crowded Cave

The name of the cave is synonymous with difficulty in tracking it down; there is a need for a short climb to reach it. It opens up where the smooth walls of the Pavilion meet the more articulated wall of the Serre del Mirabella to the North East. The cavity has two entrances about ten meters apart. On the right, the largest: it is a large niche in a wall that is almost 10 meters wide and deep; on the left, a window of a couple of meters, disguised as a fig. The cave was inhabited by people who had reasons to hide and I would say that they have occupied their idleness to excavate a rich archaeological deposit. I personally collected 20 human femurs and a sample of clay fragments: some rare with "pinched" decoration from the Neolithic, Eneolithic, and Bronze Age; even fragments with glazed decoration dating back to the 249th-44430772th century.
