English Garden - Palermo
Description

English Garden - Palermo

Via Libertà and Via del Giardino. The garden was designed by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile in 1851. Inside we find numerous sculptures scattered around the garden including that of Benedetto Civiletti depicting the "Canaris a Scio". Inside you can also admire a small temple designed by Ernesto Basile inspired by Arab-Norman architecture and a nineteenth-century style glass and wrought iron greenhouse. In the "parterre" of the garden on the opposite side of Viale della Libertà we find the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi sculpted by Vincenzo Ragusa and enriched by two reliefs ("The landing in Marsala" and "The battle at the admiral's bridge") and from the “Leone di Caprera” made by Mario Rutelli, the monument was inaugurated in 1891 on the occasion of the National Exhibition which was held that year in Palermo.

Property bound pursuant to Legislative Decree 42/2004 (DDG n. 3707 of 10.08.17).
