Fort St. Elmo (Fort St. Elmo) - Malta
Photo: web
Historic fort of the island. Built on the site of an ancient watchtower, the first fort was built in 1551. In 1565, when the Ottoman Empire attacked Malta, it resisted bombing for a whole month; when it then fell, all the survivors were massacred. Later the architect of the Medici family, Francesco Laparelli, gave it its present form, which was then completed in the following centuries.
