Piazza Duomo. The fountain, built around the middle of the XNUMXth century in Carrara marble, represents the Amenano river as a young man holding a cornucopia from which water pours into a tub with a rounded edge. The water, overflowing from this tub, produces a waterfall effect that gives the sensation of a sheet. Hence the Sicilian way of saying “acqua a linzolu” to indicate the fountain.
The water that falls from the pool pours into the river below, which flows at a level of about two meters below the square. This is now the only point from which you can see the river as its entire course is underground.
