Description:
The area includes the stretch of sea overlooking the Torre Salsa Regional Nature Reserve and the SIC ITA040003 which includes some of the most intact beaches
sandy beaches of Sicily as well as dune strings that host both natural and artificial plant communities. Characteristic features of the area are also headlands and
cliffs consisting of marly limestone and globigerine marl, as well as clayey gullies. The area does not present significant pressures due to the protection regime
Natural reserve, except in the bathing season where tourist pressure and pleasure boating are relevant.
4.2Quality and importance
The SIC is characterized by a vast prairie with Posidonia oceanica and Cymodocea nodosa and by the presence of the Caretta caretta species which elected it as a site of
oviposition. Of particular interest is the presence of submarine bioconstructions by the polychaete Sabellaria alveolata.
