The SIC area falls within the municipalities of Caltabellotta, Sciacca, Villafranca Sicula, Calamonaci, Ribera. The landscape is characterized by the terminal stretch of the river
Verdura, from its mouth and from a limited strip of the neighboring coast. From the geological point of view, the area is made up of recent deposits (sands, clays, calcarenites) of
Pliocene and Pleistocene, from the Evaporitic Formation of the Messinian and from foredeep deposits of the Middle Upper Pliocene. The bioclimate can be defined as
Upper dry lower thermo-Mediterranean, with average annual rainfall of 564 mm, average temperatures of 18 ° C (Sciacca station).
