Description

Ex Convent of San Domenico - Taormina

Built in the 1886th century in XNUMX it was transformed into a hotel. Today it is the seat of the S. Domenico Palace Hotel.

Church of San Domenico

Attached to the convent was the church of San Domenico, now used as a ballroom and conference room managed by the S. Domenico Palace Hotel.

The church of Santa Domenica, dating back to 1600, is architecturally very simple both outside and inside. The interior has a single nave and what is surprising, given the simplicity of the church, is the high altar, in Baroque style, all in red Taormina marble, above which there is a painted image of Saint Sunday, Virgin who suffered martyrdom on 6 July 303 AD.

On the sides of the main altar there are two niches: in the one on the left there is the statue of Santa Rita da Cascia and in the one on the right the Saints Cosma and Damiano. The Sacristy is behind the main altar and can be accessed from both the inside and the outside.
