Ecomuseum Mare Memoria Viva
The Memoria Viva Sea Ecomuseum, best known as the "sea ecomuseum" is a community and cultural space, created together with the inhabitants of the seaside villages, which hosts a choral, audiovisual and multimedia narration of stories, memories, photographs and videos: there are stories of life, of resistance, of travel, of holidays, of work, of the mafia and of abuse; there are memories, faded photos, forgotten places, works by artists, images of the present, fairy tales, maps and visions of the future.
By investigating the link between places and people through research and artistic practices, the museum works on the sense of community and supports actions of active citizenship and culturally based local development. The ecomuseum offers cultural and non-formal education activities, urban explorations, workshops, exhibitions, conferences and public meetings on topics of collective interest: citizenship, art, education, marine sciences, migrations, environment, placemaking.
The Mare Memoria Viva Ecomuseum was born in 2014 thanks to a project financed by CLAC by the CONILSUD Foundation in partnership with the Municipality of Palermo - Ass.to alla Cultura with Francesco Giambrone.
Even today, the ecomuseum is managed through an innovative public-private partnership experiment involving the Museums and Exhibition Spaces Service of the Culture Department of the Municipality of Palermo, CLAC and MMV.
The Mare Memoria Viva non-profit association, a spin-off of CLAC founded in 2014 for the management of the ecomuseum and the cultural and educational activities connected to it, is a community of intentions and practices that aggregates around the museum and the in care of its reference territory, the southeast coast of the city of Palermo.
