Contrada Sorbera and Contrada Gibiotti (ITA070027)

Site type: SAC - Special Conservation Area

Code: ITA070027 - Hectares: 1439

Description:

It is a hilly area with mild reliefs at altitudes not exceeding 600 m, interspersed with river valleys which in some points open up to rivers. Geologically
it is mainly made up of metamorphic rocks. The bioclimate is between the thermo-Mediterranean and the mid-Mediterranean with a sub-humid shadow type
inferior. The natural vegetation is represented by deciduous woodland formations with Quercus virgiliana. Frequent are the substitution aspects such as the
maquis with Euphorbia dendroides, grasslands with Ampelodesmos mauritanicus and the thickets of Oleo-Ceratonion. Along the water courses, they are sometimes found
ripisilve with plane trees and willows or more rarely oleander formations. Along the rivers there are frequent glareicolous aspects of Helichrysum italicum.
4.2Quality and importance
It is a rather degraded area due to various anthropogenic factors. From the naturalistic point of view the main emergencies are the deciduous woods, the
ripisilve and the glareic formations of the rivers. There are also various entities that are rare or considered of significant interest in the regional area
phytogeographic, in turn mentioned in the list in section 3.3 (D). The site is characterized by the presence of relict strips of Laurus nobilis formations.
The vertebrate fauna does not present naturalistic emergencies of particular importance. Among the invertebrates it is worth mentioning Hennedyia annulitarsis for which the site
it represents the only Italian station and one of the very few in Europe. It is a species of exceptional fauna and biogeographical value, belonging to
genus and one endemic species of the Mediterranean region. Among the invertebrate fauna there are also endemics and rare species, sometimes a lot
localized.
