Contrada Carancino
Area of archaeological interest art. 142 lett. m Legislative Decree 42/2004
The rocky ridge is intensely affected, from the highest part down to the river bank, by the presence of caves used as dwellings in the Byzantine and medieval times. A hypogeum with arcosoli on the walls belongs to the same complex. Three cave tombs represent what remains of the pre-existing necropolis of ancient bronze not reused in late antiquity. On the plateau near the road there are the remains of a small temple evidenced by the presence of blocks and a column rock, stacked on the edge of a field.
The area is full of black paint chips. (Text source: survey form no. 253 Landscape Plan of the Province of Syracuse - Archaeological Heritage)
