Historical collection of physics tools

La Historical collection of physics tools is the collection of scientific instruments of the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Palermo and is part of the university museum system.

Started in 1998, it consists of about 450 pieces. The oldest date back to 1811, the year in which Domenico Scinà received the chair of experimental physics and with it the direction of the physics cabinet.

The instruments in the Collection have accumulated over time, based on the purchases made by the directors who succeeded one another in the direction of the Institute of Physics and on the general historical-scientific trend that Italy has undergone in these two centuries of history.

The Collection has a great historical-scientific value because the typology of the various instruments and the date of their purchase provide a picture of the scientific activity carried out over the years.
