Mother Church (S. Maria delle Stelle) - Comiso

The Mother Church of Comiso was built in the fifteenth century, on a pre-existing temple of Chiaramonte, dedicated to Santa Maria del Mulino, due to its proximity to the ancient mill. Of the ancient church only the bell tower remains. After the disastrous earthquake of 1693 it was destroyed and rebuilt in 1699 thanks to the generous contribution of Count Baldassarre IV Naselli. The pillars and the pointed sixth of the central nave remain of the original construction. The neo-Gothic dome was completed in 1894, while the bell tower was completed in 1936 by the engineer.
