Church and Convent of S. Maria di Gesù

The convent of Santa Maria di Gesù was founded in the first half of the 1400th century by the Observant Friars Minor in the Rambaldo district, next to the ruins of an ancient Roman village, but a century later it was already almost abandoned, when it was obtained by the Reformed Friars Minor (1578), who also took over the monastery of S. Pietro and remained there until 1866.
The current building, probably from the sixteenth century, has been recently restored and has a pillared portico on the front on which slender monolithic columns support the lowered arches of a large loggia.
Under the portico, which was once frescoed, is the side entrance to the church, which has almost entirely lost the rich decorations it was endowed with; beyond the church the ruins of the convent cloister, in ruins.
