Church and Convent of S. Domenico
In Piazza XVI Maggio, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, behind the Villetta and Fontana d'Ercole. The church, built between 1703 and 1727 on a project by Rosario Gagliardi, is annexed to the former Convent of the Dominican Fathers. The façade has two orders, the first Doric and the second Ionic while the central part protrudes towards the street with a convex shape. The interior is structured on five domes richly decorated with stuccoes and side altars with eighteenth-century paintings. The former convent which has a facade in via Bruno is now used as a school and has been largely rebuilt except in the south wing where there is an ashlar portal by Sinatra.
