Church of San Liberale

Built in the early seventeenth century by coral fishermen, and dedicated to their martyr Liberal or Liberante killed in Africa for not having denied faith in Christ. It is made of tuff near the rocks, currently abandoned and in poor condition.

Curiosity

According to a legend, a boat dedicated to coral fishing, with Trapani fishermen, went into the Carthaginian waters and was attacked by pirates, one of the crew members, a certain Liberal, after being kidnapped, was slaughtered for not having denied his Christian faith. On the same day of the martyrdom, some Trapani sailors who had gone as far as the Carthaginian waters, where the martyrdom had taken place, fished such a quantity of coral that they attributed the merit to the innocent blood of the martyr. Back in Trapani, the fishermen unloaded their precious cargo in this place and here they wanted to build the small church in honor of what they considered a saint.
