Church of San Francesco d'Assisi and of the Immaculate Conception

san francesco all'immacolataPiazza S. Francesco d'Assisi. The imposing facade of the church in late Catania Baroque dominates the homonymous square on which it is located. The entrance is preceded by a wide staircase. The main façade has two orders and on the sides there are two twin bell towers with a domed roof. The churchyard is surrounded by a marble balustrade with statues of saints. The building, in its present form, dates back to the early 1541th century. The interior, with three naves, preserves many works: a wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception from the 1574th century; some canvases by Giuseppe Zacco and Giuseppe Rapisarda; a canvas I by Jacopo Vignerio of XNUMX. The frescoes of the dome on the apse of the central nave are by Olivio Sozzi, while the corbels of the dome are frescoed by Francesco Sozzi. On the polychrome marble altar, the door of the ciborium is made with a lapis lazuli mosaic on a chiseled gold base, the work of Paolo Guarna from XNUMX. The monument is included in the list of bound architectural assets
