The current church was built on the site of a pre-existing church between 1599 and 1632 on projects attributed to Vittorio Cassar and was enlarged by the architect Tommaso Dingli in 1660. It is said that the same architect worked on the sculpture of the choir. The church was dedicated on May 13, 1729. [1] The church was more modified in 1913 when the aisles were added.
