Description

Church of San Domenico

Dating back to the fourteenth century. Dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. With subsequent renovations. The Church of S. Domenico, known as del Rosario (1678), has one of the few prospects that remained intact after the earthquake of 1693. The original construction of the Church, with the adjoining Dominican Convent dates back to 1461. The sacred place is rich of interesting paintings of the sixteenth century, and has an internal chapel, once reserved for the prayers of the friars, richly decorated with wall paintings and valuable stuccos. The convent is currently the seat of the Municipal Palace, since 1869, even if from archival documents it appears that the assembly of the Jurors (as the councilors were called at the time) already met there in 1626.
