carmine churchThe Church of the Madonna del Carmine is located in via Ruggero VII at the height of via Ducezio. The church and the adjoining convent of the Carmelite Fathers were built in the second half of the eighteenth century. The church was designed by Rosario Gagliardi, the convent was designed by Vincenzo Sinatra. The church has a concave facade with three orders. The first order has a portal dominated by the coat of arms of the Carmelite Fathers supported by two winged cherubs; the second order has a large window and two baroque scrolls; the third order has a belfry with three openings. The interior has a Greek cross plan and is rich in stuccoes, on the main altar there is a wooden statue depicting the Madonna del Carmelo attributed to the sculptor Antonino del Monachello (XNUMXth century) from Noto Antica, as well as the two holy water stoups. in asphaltic stone placed at the entrance of the church. The vault, frescoed by the painter Olivio Sozzi, depicts "The Triumph of the Virgin of Carmel"
