Church of S. Lorenzo (Church of the Theatines) - Piazza Armerina

DATING: XNUMXth century

DESCRIPTION: It was built in the early 1600s on a previous one dating back to the XNUMXth century, called Santa Maria del gorgo Nero or of the Holy Father, of which some late-medieval remains remain visible in the outer right wall with ogival portal and slit windows. In the concave Baroque façade, surmounted by a squat square bell tower, on the sides of the portal, two statues of local sandstone have been placed, representing Sant'Andrea Avellino and San Gaetano Thiene, coming from the nearby and disappeared San Giovanni gate.
