Church of S. Euplio Martire and early Christian necropolis

In via S. Euplio, just behind the amphitheater, you can see the ruins of a small church, dedicated to S. Euplio, completely destroyed by the air raid on 8 July 1943.
At the entrance to the fence that houses the ruins of the ancient church of S. Euplio you can see a ladder that leads to an underground room. When you go down the whole staircase you enter a small, very humid and dark room from the walls of which some paintings emerge; at the bottom is a small altar with traces, now almost completely disappeared, of wall frescoes. Much of the environment is carved into the rock; you can also see some side niches. According to recent studies this room was used as a sepulcher
